SnagMyCar lets nurses buy a new car without spending days off at a dealership or answering sales calls after a night shift. You tell us the exact car, we collect written, itemized out the door quotes from every franchised dealer in your radius that has it, and you choose by email at whatever hour suits you. The fee is $499 in total.
Why the usual dealership process clashes with shift work
Dealerships keep retail hours. Nurses on three twelves, rotating schedules or permanent nights often do not. If you work 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., the store opens around the time you are trying to fall asleep, and the salesperson's 2 p.m. follow-up call is your middle of the night. Days off are for recovery, errands and family, and spending one of them waiting in a showroom is a poor trade.
Shoppers in general feel this. Cox Automotive found that waiting at the dealership is the top stress point for car shoppers, and its 2025 car buyer study put the total time to buy a vehicle at just under 14 hours. Our process has no live parts until the very end. Dealers send written quotes to us, and you read them when you are awake. There is nothing to answer at a bad hour.
What a search looks like across a block of shifts
Here is one way a search can line up with a stretch of three night shifts. The rounds run on their own clock, so the exact days will vary.
- Your day off, whenever you are up: submit the exact car, colors, must-haves, search radius, and whether you want pickup or delivery.
- Shifts one and two: round one runs. We email every dealer with a matching car and collect written out the door prices over about 36 hours.
- Shift three: round two. The best written number goes back to the other dealers to beat, over about 24 hours.
- After your block: the final call with the top two takes about 12 hours, then your side by side list arrives. Read it after you have slept.
- Once you choose: the dealer sends the buyer's order, we check it against your quote, and you set a pickup or delivery time on your next day off.
The full sequence is on our how it works page.
Delivery after nights, or pickup on your terms
Driving an hour to a dealer straight off a night shift is not a safe plan. Delivery to your home can often be arranged with the dealer, and every quote shows an estimated pickup or delivery cost, so you can see what each option adds before you choose. A cheaper car at a far store can lose once you add the delivery charge or the trip. We rank by the total to your driveway, not the dealer's price alone.
Travel nurses and relocations
Travel contracts and moves for a new hospital job raise two practical questions: where to buy, and where the car will be titled and registered. We serve buyers who live in Florida, Ohio, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Delaware, Vermont, Wyoming and Idaho, because many other states regulate or ban car buying agents. Tell us your home address when you start, so dealers quote taxes and registration for where you actually live. If the winning store is in another state, our guide to buying a car out of state covers the paperwork and the trip.
If you are starting a new job, give us the date you need the car. Dealers then quote cars that can be ready in time, and you can choose delivery to your new address.
Keep the focus on the total, not the payment
Many nurses shop with a firm monthly number in mind, which makes the finance office the riskiest part of the deal. A dealer can hit your payment by stretching the loan term or folding in products while the total cost climbs. Our quotes are total prices, not payments, so you see what the car really costs.
Get a pre-approval from a credit union or bank before quotes arrive. If your hospital system has an employee credit union, that is a sensible place to start. Lenders commonly let dealers mark up a loan rate by about 2 to 2.5 percentage points, so a written outside rate gives the dealer something firm to beat. We never arrange loans and never accept money from lenders.
Is the $499 worth it on a nurse's budget?
That depends on how good a deal you could get on your own, and we would rather you know that before you sign up. If you already have a written out the door quote, send it with your search. If we do not beat it, your $99 deposit is refunded and you pay nothing. The other $400 is charged only after the dealer's buyer's order matches the number you picked. Our guide on whether a car broker is worth it runs the break-even honestly, and the pricing page lists every charge.
What nurses tend to ask for
Commuting at odd hours shapes the wish list. We hear requests for strong headlights and driver assistance for dark drives, all-wheel drive where snow arrives before a 6 a.m. start, a hybrid or an efficient engine for a long commute, and a supportive seat after twelve hours on your feet. Those are requests, not our recommendations; the car is your choice. Put every must-have on your list, because each quote has to match it exactly.
Paperwork checked before you sign
When you pick a quote, the dealer writes a buyer's order at that exact number and sends it to us. We check every line: price, doc fee, taxes, registration and any add-on. Products that appear late, such as protection packages, are the most common problem, and our guide to dealer add-ons explains which ones you can refuse. Once it matches, you sign and pay the dealer directly. We never hold your money and never take title to the car.
What we do not cover
We handle new cars only for now, not used cars or leases. Brands that sell direct, such as Tesla, Rivian, Lucid and Polestar, have no dealers to negotiate with. If you have your eye on a specific build that no lot has, a factory order works through the same rounds.
Other shift workers use the same process. Read our pages for physicians and residents and first responders. When you are rested and have a few minutes, start your search.
Questions
I work nights. When do I need to be available?
Almost never at a set time. You submit your car whenever you are up, the rounds run by email without you, and you read the side by side list after you have slept. The only scheduled moment is pickup or delivery, which you set with the winning dealer for a day off.
Can the car be delivered so I do not drive to the dealer after a shift?
Delivery to your home can often be arranged with the dealer. Every quote shows an estimated pickup or delivery cost, so you can see what delivery adds and compare it with driving to the store on a day off. We rank quotes by the total to your driveway.
I am a travel nurse. Can I use SnagMyCar?
If your home address is in Florida, Ohio, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Delaware, Vermont, Wyoming or Idaho, yes. Dealers quote taxes and registration for where you live. We cannot serve buyers in other states right now, because many states regulate or ban car buying agents.
Do you help with financing or monthly payments?
We do not arrange loans or take lender money, and our quotes are total prices rather than payments. Get a pre-approval from a credit union or bank, ideally one tied to your employer if it has one, and make the dealer beat that rate. Watch for longer terms that lower the payment but raise the total.
What if the $499 fee is more than I would save?
Send your best written out the door quote when you start. If we do not beat it, your $99 deposit is refunded and you pay nothing. The $400 balance is charged only after the dealer's buyer's order matches the quote you chose, so you never pay the full fee for a deal that falls apart.
