Car buying service in Florida

Yes. SnagMyCar is a car buying agent for Florida residents. You name the exact new car, we email every franchised dealer in your radius that has it in stock, collect written out the door quotes, make them compete again, and hand you the best number. The total fee is $499, and you buy directly from the dealer.

How Florida law treats a car broker

Florida is one of the clearer states on this question. State law defines a "motor vehicle broker" as a person in the business of procuring vehicles for the public who does not store, display or take ownership of them, and it carves brokers out of the definition of a motor vehicle dealer in Fla. Stat. 320.27(1)(c) and (1)(d). The state's motor vehicle agency says on its dealer and broker FAQ that it does not license entities that meet the broker definition.

Our understanding is that SnagMyCar fits inside that carve-out. We never own, store or display a car. The dealer sells to you, takes your payment and titles the car in your name. We are paid by you and only you, never by a dealer or a lender. That is our reading of the statute, not legal advice, and no Florida agency has reviewed or approved our service. Florida is also our home state: WETYR Corporation, the company behind SnagMyCar, is based in Cape Canaveral.

Florida doc fees are the highest in the country

Florida does not cap the documentation fee a dealer can charge. CarEdge's dealer-quote dataset reports an average Florida doc fee of $973, the highest of any state and about double the national average of $477 in the same CarEdge dealer fee report. Those are reported figures from a competitor's live report. State rules change, so check Florida's current rule before you rely on any number.

A doc fee near $1,000 is often preprinted on the buyer's order and described as non-negotiable. Since there is no cap, it is simply part of the price. We do not argue each line on its own. Every dealer we contact has to give us an itemized out the door figure, so a store that keeps a high doc fee has to cut the selling price to win. Our doc fee comparison by state shows how far apart dealers can be.

What a Florida out the door quote should list

Line itemWhat to expect in Florida
Selling priceThe negotiated number, before fees and tax
Dealer doc feeUncapped, so it varies widely from store to store
Sales tax6% state rate plus your county's discretionary surtax
Title and registrationState fees, passed through by the dealer
Dealer add-onsShould be itemized one by one, with prices

Florida's statewide sales tax rate is 6 percent, and most counties add a discretionary surtax, so your total depends on where you live. The Florida Department of Revenue publishes current county rates. Our guide to out the door pricing explains each line in more detail.

Shopping across a long state

Florida is big. A buyer in the Panhandle and a buyer in Miami-Dade are a full day's drive apart, and the number of same-brand dealers within an hour of you varies a lot. Around Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville and South Florida, a modest radius often reaches several stores carrying the same trim. In smaller markets you may need a wider radius to get real competition.

That is why we show "total to your driveway" next to every quote: the out the door price plus an estimate for pickup or delivery. A store three hours away can win if its number is lower by more than the trip costs. None of Florida's neighbors are on our list of served states right now, so most Florida searches stay inside Florida. If your radius does pull in a dealer across the line in Georgia or Alabama, read our guide to buying a car out of state before you agree to anything, because tax and registration work differently.

Add-ons and financing at Florida stores

Pre-installed packages such as paint or fabric protection, tint and theft etching show up on window stickers in every state. Ask for each one to be listed with its own price. Some stores will remove them to win a quote round; others will not. Our dealer add-ons guide covers which ones are worth questioning.

We do not arrange or sell loans. Get a pre-approval from a Florida credit union or your bank before you sign up, then ask the dealer to beat that rate. For reference, Experian reported an average new-vehicle loan APR of 6.35% in Q2 2026 (Experian data via Auto Remarketing). A written pre-approval gives you a number to compare against, and the finance office has to match or beat it.

Picking up your car in Florida

Once you choose a quote, we tell the winning dealer, they send a buyer's order at that exact number, and we check it line by line. The $400 success fee is charged only after the buyer's order matches. Then you deal with the dealer directly. Bring:

  • Your driver's license and proof of Florida insurance for the new car
  • Your pre-approval letter, or the payment method you agreed on with the dealer
  • Your trade-in title or payoff details, if you are trading a car
  • A copy of the buyer's order we approved

At signing, compare the contract with that buyer's order. The doc fee, selling price and add-ons should match exactly. Check that the VIN on the paperwork matches the car in front of you, walk around it in daylight, and do not sign for anything you did not approve. If the dealer delivers to your home, do the same inspection before you sign.

One limit worth knowing: brands that sell direct, such as Tesla, Rivian, Lucid and Polestar, do not have franchised dealers to negotiate with, so our service does not help with them.

Cost and timing for Florida buyers

The price is the same in every state we serve: a $99 deposit when you sign up and a $400 success fee after your buyer's order checks out. If we cannot beat the best written out the door quote you already have, we refund the $99 and you pay nothing. Quotes are usually ready three to four days after you sign up. See our pricing page for the details and how the process works step by step, or compare us with doing it yourself in broker vs negotiating yourself.

Questions

Do I need to use a licensed car broker in Florida?

Florida law excludes motor vehicle brokers that do not store, display or own vehicles from the dealer definition, and the state motor vehicle agency says it does not license entities that meet the broker definition. Our understanding is that our model fits that carve-out, but this is our reading, not legal advice, and no agency has reviewed our service. You still buy and title the car through a licensed Florida dealer.

Can I negotiate the doc fee at a Florida dealer?

Florida does not cap doc fees, and CarEdge reports an average near $973, so the fee is effectively part of the price. Dealers rarely remove it, but they can lower the selling price to offset it. We ask every store for a complete, itemized out the door number so a high doc fee is visible and has to be balanced by a lower price to win.

Will Florida dealers call me after I sign up?

No. While we collect quotes, dealers deal only with us by email and do not get your name, email address or phone number. After you choose a quote, we share your contact details with that one dealer so it can prepare your paperwork and complete the sale with you.

Can I have the car delivered instead of driving across Florida?

Often, yes. Many dealers offer delivery, sometimes for a fee. When you sign up, tell us whether you prefer pickup or delivery. Each quote on your list shows an estimated pickup or delivery cost added to the out the door price, so you can compare a nearby store with a cheaper one farther away.

Does SnagMyCar help with Tesla purchases in Florida?

No. Tesla, Rivian, Lucid and Polestar sell directly to buyers rather than through franchised dealers, so there is no dealer competition to create. Our service only works for brands sold through franchised dealerships, which covers most new cars sold in Florida.

Want dealers to compete for your car?

Tell us the exact car. We email every dealer that has it, make them beat each other in writing, and send you the lowest out the door price in about 3 to 4 days.
