Buying a new luxury or exotic car through an agent

Yes, you can buy a new Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, McLaren or Aston Martin through a buying agent. The dealer still controls allocations, and limited models often sell at or above sticker. An agent adds written quotes from every dealer in your radius, pressure on market adjustments and deposit terms, privacy and a checked buyer's order.

What a buying agent can and cannot do on an exotic

Luxury and exotic cars are sold through franchised US dealers, the same as a Toyota or a Ford. The difference is supply. On a mass-market car, dealers compete for buyers. On an allocation-limited exotic, buyers compete for dealers. That changes what is realistic, and we would rather say so up front.

What we doWhat we cannot do
Send your exact car or build to every dealer for that brand in your radius and get written terms backPromise you an allocation on a limited model
Push to remove or reduce market adjustments, and play the written quotes against each otherGuarantee a price below sticker on a car that is in short supply
Get deposit amounts, refund terms and delivery windows in writingOverride a manufacturer that picks buyers for a special series
Keep your name out of the first round of dealer emailsBuild the purchase history some dealers look for
Check the buyer's order against the terms you picked before you signTake title, handle your money or arrange your loan

The value on these cars is rarely a headline discount. It is a written comparison across dealers you would not otherwise hear from, a smaller or zero market adjustment, a deposit you can get back, a firm delivery slot and paperwork that matches what you agreed. For a car on a dealer's lot, we run our standard search. For a car that has to be built, we run a factory order search on your configurator build.

How allocations work

An allocation is the number of cars a manufacturer lets a dealer order for a given model and period. Dealers do not get unlimited build slots. When a model is in demand, the dealer chooses who gets each slot, and that choice is theirs to make.

Some dealers give priority to buyers with a purchase history at that store or with the brand. Some keep waiting lists. On special series and limited editions, the manufacturer may decide who is offered a car, and those offers often go to existing owners before the car is announced. None of that is something an agent can change, and you should be wary of anyone who says otherwise.

What we can do is find out, in writing, which dealers in your radius have an open allocation for the model you want, what they would charge and when they expect delivery. On core models that are not limited, there is often more room than buyers expect, because a dealer with an open slot would rather fill it than hold it.

Market adjustments and pricing

A market adjustment, often labeled ADM, is a dealer charge above the manufacturer's sticker price. On popular exotics it can appear as a separate line, be built into the selling price or show up as a required package of dealer extras.

Market adjustments are a dealer decision, not a factory charge, and they vary from store to store on the same car. That is where written competition helps. When one dealer quotes a smaller adjustment in writing, the others have a reason to match it. We ask every dealer to itemize the selling price, any adjustment, the doc fee and any dealer-installed products, so you can see where the money goes. Our guide to dealer add-ons explains which extras you can refuse.

We do not publish target prices for these cars. The right number depends on the model, the build, the dealer's allocation and the time of year, and the only reliable answer is a written quote.

Deposits and refund terms

Exotic and ultra-luxury orders usually need a deposit, and it can be large. Before you pay one, get these answers on paper:

  • Is the deposit refundable, in full or in part, and under what conditions?
  • What happens to it if the factory cancels or delays the build, or the dealer cannot deliver?
  • Does the agreed selling price hold if the sticker price rises before production?
  • Is the deposit tied to your specific build or VIN, or to a place on a list?

We ask every dealer these questions in the first round, so you can compare deposit terms the same way you compare price. Paying by credit card, where the dealer accepts it, gives you a dispute route if a refundable deposit is not returned.

Delivery, transport and the delivery inspection

Many buyers pick up in person. If the dealer is a long drive away, ask for enclosed transport. Enclosed carriers keep road debris, weather and dust off the paint, and most dealers that sell these cars can arrange it or work with a carrier you choose. Get the transport cost, the carrier's insurance and the pickup and drop-off dates in writing. Our comparison shows each quote with estimated pickup or delivery cost, so you see the total to your driveway.

A new car does not need a pre-purchase inspection the way a used car does. It does need a delivery inspection before you sign the final paperwork:

  1. Match the VIN on the car to the buyer's order and the window sticker.
  2. Compare the window sticker or factory build sheet with your order, option by option, including paint, leather, stitching, wheels and carbon pieces.
  3. Inspect the paint in good light for transport damage, swirl marks or chips.
  4. Check the odometer for delivery miles only.
  5. Confirm every key, the manuals, the car cover, the charger or battery tender and any accessories that come with the car.
  6. Compare the final buyer's order to the agreed terms before you sign.

If the car crosses state lines, read buying a car out of state for how tax and registration are handled.

Discretion

A buyer shopping a high-end car through several dealers often prefers not to become a lead in every store's system. Through us, dealers deal with SnagMyCar, not with you. We do not give dealers your phone number. Your name goes to the dealer you choose when it is time for the buyer's order. Until then, the inquiry comes from us. Buyers in demanding jobs often want exactly this, including executives and doctors who do not have time for a week of dealer calls.

Brand notes

Every brand runs its allocation and ordering a little differently. These notes are general. Model availability changes often, so the written quotes are the real answer for your car.

Ferrari

Ferrari sells through authorized dealers, and the dealer manages the order book. Core models can be ordered with extensive personalization. Limited and special series cars are usually offered to selected existing clients, so a first-time buyer should expect to start with a core model. We can get written terms on a core model build from the Ferrari dealers in your radius. See Ferrari models and dealer quotes.

Lamborghini

Lamborghini dealers take orders for each model, with deep color and trim choices through the brand's Ad Personam program. Popular models can carry waiting lists. Asking several dealers in writing shows you who has an open slot and how soon. See Lamborghini models and dealer quotes.

Bentley

Bentley cars are often in dealer stock as well as available to order, with bespoke work through Mulliner. That mix means you may be able to compare an in-stock car against a factory build. We can quote both. See Bentley models and dealer quotes.

Rolls-Royce

Rolls-Royce sells through a small number of US dealers, and most buyers commission a car through the Bespoke program. Build times reflect that level of customization. With so few dealers, the written terms on deposit, timing and transport often matter as much as price. See Rolls-Royce models and dealer quotes.

McLaren

McLaren sells through retailers, with personalization through McLaren Special Operations. Some core models are in stock at retailers, which can make for a faster and more flexible deal than a fresh order. Limited models follow the brand's own allocation process. See McLaren models and dealer quotes.

Aston Martin

Aston Martin dealers sell from stock and take orders, with personalization through Q by Aston Martin. Stock levels vary by model, so a written comparison across dealers in your radius can show real differences in price and timing. See Aston Martin models and dealer quotes.

Bugatti, Pagani and Koenigsegg

These cars are built in very small numbers, and production is usually committed to buyers selected by the maker before a model is widely known. We can contact the US dealers on your behalf and get written answers, but we will not suggest that an agent can open a build slot that does not exist.

Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Genesis and Lexus

These brands sell in larger volumes, and most models are available from stock or by factory order with fewer allocation limits. Here a written competition between dealers has more room to move the price, and dealer add-ons are often the first thing to come off. Limited models such as track-focused Porsches follow allocation rules closer to the exotics.

Cost and where we work

The fee is the same for every car: $499 in total. You pay $99 at signup, and the $400 success fee is charged only after the dealer's buyer's order matches the terms you picked. If we do not beat the best written out-the-door quote you already have, the $99 is refunded and you pay nothing. We never accept money from dealers or lenders. You buy and title the car directly from the dealer. Details are on the pricing page, and the full process is on how SnagMyCar works.

We currently serve buyers in Florida, Ohio, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Delaware, Vermont, Wyoming and Idaho. Some states restrict car buying agents, so other states are on a waitlist.

Questions

Can a car buying agent get me a Ferrari allocation?

No honest agent can promise one. Ferrari dealers decide who gets build slots, and limited series cars are usually offered by the maker to selected existing clients. What an agent can do is ask every Ferrari dealer in your radius, in writing, whether they have an open slot for the core model you want, and on what terms for price, deposit and delivery.

Do exotic cars sell above sticker price?

Allocation-limited exotics often sell at or above sticker, sometimes with a market adjustment added by the dealer. That adjustment is a dealer decision, not a factory charge, and it varies between stores on the same car. Core models with open allocations and in-stock cars usually have more room. Written quotes from several dealers show where your car actually sits.

Do I need a pre-purchase inspection on a new exotic car?

No. A pre-purchase inspection is for used cars. A new car needs a careful delivery inspection before you sign the final paperwork. Match the VIN, compare the window sticker or build sheet to your order option by option, check the paint for transport damage, confirm delivery miles only and make sure every key and accessory is there.

Should I ship a new exotic car in an enclosed trailer?

For a high-value car traveling a long distance, enclosed transport is the usual choice. It protects the paint from road debris, weather and dust. Ask the dealer to arrange it or to work with a carrier you choose, and get the cost, the carrier's insurance and the pickup and delivery dates in writing before the car leaves the dealer.

Will dealers know who I am if I use SnagMyCar?

Not during the quote rounds. Dealers deal with SnagMyCar, and we do not share your phone number. Your name goes only to the dealer you choose, when it is time to prepare the buyer's order. Until then the inquiry comes from us, so you are not entered as a lead at every store you compare.

Does SnagMyCar cost more for luxury or exotic cars?

No. The fee is $499 for any car: $99 at signup and a $400 success fee charged only after the dealer's buyer's order matches the terms you picked. We never accept money from dealers or lenders. You buy and title the car directly from the dealer you choose.
